Douglas was fond of Fonzy, and the two enjoyed each other's company. He constructed beautiful cabinet work there, and in two guest cabins, which he helped build. Wilson was an artisan without peer in the matching, notching, and laying of logs for a log house, and the Douglas summer home exhibits this craftsmanship. Fonzy worked in the Navy yards at Bremerton during World War II, and settled back in Wallowa county the later years of his life.įonzy was especially proud of the work he did in the construction of the summer home of Mr. The family lived near Elgin for a number of years, while their children were growing up. To this union were born seven children, three of whom preceded him in death. He was married to Opal Young at Enterprise on February 15, 1913. He came west with his father and settled in Wallowa county where he was a carpenter for many years. Fonzy relates the following: "A few Sundays ago I was thinking of going up to Francis lake fishing, but had no horse. He says William, Jr., is better known as "Bumble" and that the is generous to the ‘nth degree. Douglas as fine, typical young folk, and say they spend much of their time riding horse back. He describes the children of Justice and Mrs. Fonzy says Justice Douglas, who was prominently mentioned as a running mare of President Roosevelt, is a man's man, a fine fellow, and as common as an "old shoe."
